Although the economic effects may not be all that immediately noticeable, it is certainly a major move in the right direction. The bigger financial impact may come from the psychological perception that the war on terrorism is making headway. We are told bin Laden’s death does not mean the fight against terrorism is over, but the winding down of the U.S. military presence in both Afghanistan and Iraq should provide measurable economic benefits for Americans. With San Diego’s large active-duty military contingents, we should also be one of the areas most benefitting from troops returning to home bases.
