Mostly negative.
As usual for military conflicts, the impact on the local economy is both good and bad. Homebase to the largest contingent of military personnel anywhere in the nation, the San Diego community is highly impacted wherever military men and women stand in harm's way. As the largest recipient of federal defense expenditures, San Diego monetarily benefits from increased operations. However, additional defense spending that may or may not occur will be in the future. The negative consequences from higher oil prices, expanding national debt, and the toll on human forces far outweigh potential positive local economic benefits.
