A double-dip is not likely this year as San Diego benefits from the huge infusion of military spending. The recovery, while sluggish and protracted, will likely continue through 2010. San Diego is in much better shape than California overall and other nearby areas. Ongoing international trade also helps San Diego.
The “double-dip” is more likely to occur in 2011 depending upon actions taken by the federal government, such as letting 2001-03 tax cuts expire, and state and local government efforts to balance their budgets by raising taxes or “fees” that will stifle a private sector still struggling to grow.
