First of all, Congress is not considering a tax cut, but whether to leave taxes where they are now or raise them. Increasing taxes on job creators, particularly small-business owners, does not encourage and expressly impedes needed private sector job growth.
The best strategy is to encourage job creation allowing more workers to actually pay taxes and increase federal government revenues. Cuts in tax rates do not mean cuts in tax revenues.
Any tax increase, particularly in the face of near 10 percent unemployment and a functional — if not technically defined — economy in recession, is not the strategy for growth.
