According to a recent study, this core dynamic has a positive ripple effect throughout the regional economy. A recent report published by the National University System Institute for Policy Research (NUSIPR) found that BIDs foster significant economic benefits for San Diego County. From fiscal years 2008 to 2010, BIDs generated a $47.4 million regional economic impact. The report found that BID spending sustains approximately 233 jobs each year, and most BID members receive greater than a 5:1 return on investment for their annual assessments.
