Answer: YES 

However, not all big conventions are equal. The best are those attended by visitors from outside the region spending significant amounts of money at restaurants, hotels, attractions, and other local businesses. Even better are conventions occurring outside of peak summer season. Good examples are major healthcare and medical trade shows, such as the upcoming Neuroscience Society convention/trade show in November. This brings new money into San Diego and creates good synergies for local industries. Comic-Con is somewhere in the middle – a big show but one which at least in 2011 only generated about one room night for every three attendees.
