I am grateful to live in a country that ensures inherent liberties. I am thankful for a government that exists not to give us happiness, but preserves our freedom to pursue happiness, however we want to define it. As Robert Frost said “I do not want to live in a homogenized society because I want the cream to rise.” And I appreciate San Diego as a place where independent, smart and creative minds come together to develop ideas and improve processes that benefit our lives from medicine and biotech, to electronics and computers, to surfboards, craft brewing, and organic farming.
