Cuts to tech-oriented military programs such as the drones would produce a "ripple effect," throughout the larger San Diego County economy, said Kelly Cunningham, an economist and senior fellow at National University System for Policy Research.
These aerospace jobs pay well, so their loss would hurt disproportionately, Cunningham said. The average annual salary in that field is $102,000 as of last year, he said, compared with a $49,000 overall average annual salary for the county.
