Erik Bruvold, president of the National University System Institute for Policy Research, disagreed with Allred and said it’s in the city’s best interest to strike a deal with Filner to end weeks of instability and uncertainty. “It’s important for the city for Filner to go,” he said.
Bruvold cited a number of initiatives that need the attention of an effective mayor, including raising money for the 2015 Balboa Park Centennial Celebration and obtaining the permits necessary to extend the trolley line to UC San Diego, among other things.
“It’s unclear to me how a paralyzed and scandal-plagued mayor can have any effective role in these or any other important matters coming up,” he said. “This mayor is simply incapable of leading right now.”
