Estimates for total welfare spending by government are four times the amount than of giving cash to all Americans currently living below to raise them above the poverty line. But replacing government’s myriad income redistribution by spending even more is reckless. It does not address resulting inevitable runaway inflation, or welfare still needed once income is spent. We would be better off with a welfare system promoting personal responsibility, reducing associated humiliations, and eliminating administrative waste.
