"It reflects something that has become pretty apparent that, for a whole variety of reasons, San Diego and San Diego’s defense contracting community is pretty well-positioned with the kind of threats and modernization efforts the DOD (Department of Defense) is likely to address in the near- to midterm," said Erik Bruvold, president of the National University System Institute for Policy Research in San Diego.
Bruvold and his colleague at the institute, Kelly Cunningham, noted that the Navy planned to buy a new littoral combat ship (a class of ships based in San Diego), add spending on electronic jamming, and buy more unmanned drones, all of which could mean more spending on projects centered in San Diego.
