The federal funds rate should be raised, which will cause the already weakening economy to further slow and go into recession. Zero interest rates take wealth from some people -- mostly middle-class savers -- and gives it to others -- mostly wealthy speculators. You can’t rob the poor, give to the rich, and expect the economy to improve. The rate should be raised to 3 percent over the next two years for a sustainable path of real growth.
