"The figures certainly show different results from the recovery from the recession, with the high end of the population doing OK while other segments are left behind," said Kelly Cunningham, economist with the National University System Institute for Policy Research. "Some people still haven't seen a recovery."
Cunningham said advances by local high-tech and biotech firms have helped propel upper-tier job growth, but the middle-income growth has been more sluggish because the construction and manufacturing industries have not yet recovered from the recession.
