The next generation workforce, particularly in San Diego, will have to develop technical skills or be left out. Most employment opportunities in San Diego are research and development driven, this is where new ideas are generated and new companies, new start ups, are being developed.
Those markets are clustered in biotech, telecom, solar, computers, electronics, and greentech, or clean tech which is the development of renewable energy.
San Diego has lost over 100-thousand jobs in the last couple of years, and many of those jobs will not be returning. Construction will remain slow, retail is going to the internet, and we don't manufacture things like we used to.
