School trustees cater to unions, not children

The five trustees who supported unionism over the interests of district’s schoolchildren also ignored a study by the National University System Institute for Policy Research. The study compared the costs of 450 non-union projects to 61 union PLA projects. Their study summary said:
“Our research shows that PLAs are associated with higher construction costs. We found costs are 13 to 15 percent higher when districts construct a school under a PLA in inflation-adjusted dollars. We found that the presence of a PLA was associated with costs that are $28.90 to $32.49 per square foot higher.”
The study made adjustments for the possibility of PLA projects being more complex by factoring out those complex projects. Like projects only were compared. These are facts, not opinions. Every trustee was given a copy of this study. The information was obviously ignored. I suspect that the project labor agreement decision had already been made.
