Still, Kelly Cunningham, economist at the National University System Institute for Policy Research, said 26 weeks isn’t enough time to find a new job in San Diego County, where the unemployment rate is 9.2 percent. California’s is even higher at 10.9 percent. The national jobless rate was 8.3 percent in July. The August figure will be released today.
“In a normal economy, then yes that would presumably be enough time, but in the stagnant, slow economic growth that we’re having, then no it isn’t,” said Cunningham.
