Contract workers are projected to more than double from 3.2 million to 7.6 million by 2020. Independent workers are technically allowed to unionize. The advantages freelancers and 1099 independent contractors, who file the IRS form, have in developing technologies are working when and how they choose. On-demand contractors may not have the same legal protections of disability leave, sick days, workers comp, but workers can form unions to negotiate for desired rights, wages, and benefits.
