San Diego's Goldilocks recovery confirmed in recently released (and revised) estimates of metropolitan
NUSIPR, November 3, 2014 - As of 2014, San Diego's economy stands at the highest level ever recorded. According to recently released (and significantly revised) estimates of metropolitan area gross domestic product (GDP) by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), San Diego's economy reached $197.9 billion in 2013. Based upon more recent national and statewide estimates of economic activity, the National University System Institute for Policy Research (NUSIPR) projects San Diego's economy will further expand 4.3 percent by the end of 2014 to $206.4 billion. NEW NATIONAL UNIVERSITY SYSTEM INSTITUTE REPORT ON ECONOMIC IMPACT OF HEALTH CARE IN SAN DIEGO
NUSIPR, October 30, 2014 - San Diego's healthcare services sector directly employs more than 121,000 San Diegans and contributes $17.2 billion to the regional economy, according to a report released today by the National University System Institute for Policy Research (NUSIPR). Even during the recession San Diego's hospitals, medical practices, and nursing and residential care facilities added middle income jobs. San Diego's vanishing Generation X
NUSIPR, August 13, 2014 - Over the past five years, through the course of recession and subsequent on-going recovery, San Diego's population continued to grow, but the number of Generation-X'ers (35-49 years old) fell and apparently took their children (<20 years old) with them. This "hollowing out" of 30-40 year olds, likely in part because of high housing prices, lack of better paying employment opportunities, and other affordability options, could have serious implications on the availability of talent and how San Diego's economy continues to recover, according to a new analysis of census and demographic data by the National University System Institute for Policy Research (NUSIPR).
